1. I received a flyer in October or November implying/ advertising the 'rest of the year free' for the first how many people who join, on a first come first served basis. I first went into the gym to query this offer. Have to admit i misunderstood it to be a year free membership as it was a clever bit of advertising, playing judo with words, and having clarified this with the manager, I found out it was only until the end of the year. Technically, it was a month free. The flyer was a very clever bit of advertising . If you see Similar flyers, make sure you rip apart the wordings.I joined a bit later and they offered me a month free trial anyway. I think they offer this free trial as part of their sales pitch if you are interested in joining any time of the year, but I could be wrong. If you are there only to enquire, they call you endlessly to persuade you to join, inviting you to a free session with a fitness instructor to help demonstrate how to use the equiptment. 2. They charge a 35 activation fee / security fob fee, and was advised this was refundable as part of the sales pitch. This was only refundable within the 1 month free trial had I cancelled during that time but the manager failed to mention this. The manager/ owner was dismissive and told me to come back after the 1 month notice period to sort it out. I sent an e-mail and he told me it was in the terms & conditions and no refund of fob fee. I was under the impression the fob fee would be returned to me. After you become a member you will not receive this money back so I am guessing it covered/ paid for the month 'free trial' . If you are reading this, then refer to the terms and conditions when presented and query this activation fee if you cancel the membership way after the free trial has ended. You will not get this back if you proceed after the trial period. Check those terms and conditions! Make sure whatever is said, get it in writing. I checked other gyms and they do not charge this extra fee. Apart from the above, nice and quiet gym. A bit on the pricey side and maybe the reason why its so quiet. Keep penny pinching and it will always remain quiet.
It is expensive as compared to other gym near by. Contract obligation means you cant leave! Place is quite small. I would not join again and pay more. Nearby gym have better service, no contract obligations and better facilities. Extra costs like activation charges Fob charges are expensive too. I found the owner/manager unprofessional as they dont listen to you! I paid the full 1 year contract monthly fee even I had to move city with my job. Would definitely don't recommend and would not come back for new membership!
Great gym little small but fab if used when quiet.
Ive been a member of Anytime Fitness Reading for over 3 years and by far this is the best gym in Reading. The free weights area is spacious with a great selection of weights and they also have nice variety of machines. They offer a range of different classes which are suitable for beginners and advanced members. The staff is friendly & professional and I would like to say a special thank you to Zaria who clearly loves her job and is always happy to help and motivate you when needed.
Most horrible service I've ever encountered! I cancelled my membership about two months ago as I had to move to a different city. I was assured on multiple occasions that my last payment would be made on 1 April, and yet they've kept taking money out of my account. My partner has experienced similar issues with Anytime Fitness in Reading in the past... In short, they're highly unprofessional and not to be trusted...
