Great place to educate your daughters to prepare them for the wider world
I've rated the school 2 stars rather than one as I cannot deny the teaching standards are good and you are likely to do well in exams at this school. However very few students are happy here as the schools focus is money and they care more about trying to get people to join the school, than they care about the pupils who actually attend. There is a very high amount of students that leave each year by the time they're in year 8 or year 9 as they do not like the school. The sixth form is very small as lots of pupils leave after GCSEs, which is why the sixth form centre was built, to attract and persuade students to stay on. Many of the teachers also seem to be unhappy and each year many of them leave. There's little structure to the basic rules as they make them up as they go along and they will not stick a rule for a long amount of time. In this sense it is extremely unorganised as students will get away with most things, then will get in trouble for something petty and unreasonable. Although it may be a good school, it has completely changed over the last 5 years, which is why ex-pupils loved the school and over time, pupils no longer do. The school goes out of their way to find out every detail of your personal lives despite how unprofessional they have to be to do so. If you do not like your privacy being invaded to such an extent then I suggest this is not the school for you. On the other hand, there is a friendly atmosphere between the students and everyone tends to get on with everyone, which is a positive side to it. Also lots of the teachers have good relationships with the students.Overall I could only recommend this school if you're a certain type of person as it may be the school for some people but not the majority. I felt it was such a shame that at my time there, the headmistress invested little time in the students who didn't appear to perform to a her particular standard. Instead her focus was on finding weaknesses that she could punish you for. This lack of encouragement from someone so senior had an astounding effect on me and many pupils, which is why I feel so many pupils have resentment towards the school. I strongly feel that the headmistress/master is the focal part of any school which is why they can have such a huge impact on the students' contentment at school. The higher up through the school you get, the worse your opinion becomes. Finally to add, the 'Brain Can Do' pitch does not get intergrated or applied into the school or our learning, therefore despite it being interesting, it is useless to any students attending Queen Anne's.
